RE: Wildfires: Another Publicity Opportunity

There is virtually no industry recognition here in detroit and due to these wildfires I've had several calls this week because it makes people realize it can happen to anyone. These calers found me by doing a search online.

The California wildfires have provided an opportunity for home inventory service business owners to promote their services -- even if you're nowhere near the West Coast.

I've prepared a news release that you can customize and send to your local media to "localize" this national story and generate awareness of the home inventory service business.

If you'd like to receive the news release, please e-mail me at nebraskainventory@yahoo.com (Subject: Wildfire News Release) and I'll send it to you.

One of the biggest challenges that we face as an industry is spreading the word about our services. Advertising is expensive -- but free publicity is invaluable! Help increase the profile of the home inventory service industry -- and your business!! -- by sending a news release to your local media!

Bridget,

This is another good idea. I like how you adapt your marketing to take advantage of the current news and how it can apply to your business.

Here in Delaware we are experiencing drought conditions. We are probably on the northern edge of the drought that is hurting the southeastern coastal states. Our governor has just requested voluntary water restrictions. So the area arouond us is also vulnerable to fire.

We are in an area of the East Coast where the hurricanes make landfall south of us and have weakened before getting here or the few hurricanes make landfall north of us. So we have been fortunate over the years to not have ahd a direct hit. But I do stress being prepared for these disasters.

Thanks for the reminder that forest fires can strike anywhere.

George

The devastating California wildfires provide another opportunity to spread the word about Home Inventory Services.

Call your local television station and tell them you have a local angle on the California wildfire story. Hundreds of homes will be lost in the massive wildfire -- and although homes in your area (unless you live in California) are not affected, the effects of the fires will be devastating on the homeowners -- particularly if they lose everything, and have not inventoried their belongings.

Then, highlight the specific issues in your area -- hurricanes, floods, tornadoes -- as well as the very real threat of fire and burglary that faces homeowners in (your city) every day. Emphasize to the reporter that the reminder of a major disaster like these wildfires should be the catalyst for residents of (your town) to inventory their possessions like their insurance company recommends. Share the story about the insurance company paying to replace the family's television set, but only reimbursing for a regular 27" TV unless they can show documentation that they really did own the 60" flatscreen.

You've put together a one-page guide for homeowners to help them with their inventory, and you've made it available on your website for the station's viewers to download... and here's the link.
