I first experimented with placing all of an items relevant information, i.e. manufacturer, model, serial number, and value on the picture itself. As I've been reading the forum here, I've found other ways of recording the data that I prefer. To some people, this may be a great way to make reports!
Putting the date on the photos is a good idea. I have been doing home and business inventories since about 2001 and have never put the date on the photos, but it is something I'll look into.
I have read that it can be very important to have a date stamp on the photos we take. My particular camera and many others do not have that option. I stumbled across a website that has a program that puts the date stamp on the photos after I have downloaded them to my computer. I downloaded and used the free trial and it works great! It will put the date on one photo or the entire group of photos based on the day the picture was taken. It also saves it as a different batch on your computer so you have two sets, one with the date and one without. I was very pleased to have found this and thought perhaps someone else might benefit as well. You can get more info at www.avpsoft.com and the program is called TimeToPhoto. The purchase price is $24.95.
