Hi,

This is a friendly suggestion/reminder. As I posted in this forum several times, if you are giving discounts, make sure they have an expiration date. For verbal discounts (in person), clearly state when the discount is no longer valid, as this motivates them to action. Have an expiration date clearly displayed on any printed coupons. On your printed price list and web page, make a statement at the bottom such as, "Prices subject to change at any time." or "We reserve the right to change our prices at any time."

Without an expiration date, those discounts will keep showing up and by law (depending on city, county or state), you have to honor them. Even many years later! My friend found that out the hard way, but that info is posted elsewhere in this forum.

Good luck with your business.

Taylor,

One suggestion is to focus on housing developments, condo complexes etc...  neighbors talk and word of mouth can be powerful.

You can also give your customers a discount coupon to pass on to neighbors as well as a small discount on their next inventory to help.

CONGRATULATIONS! I hope you have many more clients.

Once you get the first one done, the rest are easy.

I noticed that there has not been a success story since 2010. So I decided to post one on my recent inventory.

I sent out postcards the first week I started and I got  a call from someone who was interested in having their house inventoried. I went over to their house a week later and talked to the guy. He loved the idea and I did the house the same exact day. From the first inventory I found out that this is a interesting business. I saw some things that I have never seen before like a picture made out of rocks, a silver dollar, and some rare eagles statues . It took 2 hours to take pictures and 2 hours to make the cd and the book.  When I went back to the customers house I showed the him how to use the software and also showed him the binder with all the pictures I took. I will admit its a hard business to start but once you start you get business! The next day I got a call from someone who found me on the web who wanted their house done.

I can't wait to get my next client! I hope I can because right now in Florida it has rained for about a week and has really started to flood. I hope to get some people who are afraid that there house is going to flood!

I hope this helps people who are interested in starting this business!
