RE: KC Home Inventory Kit - Disappointed

I also made a mistake getting the KC Home Inventory kit and recently sent it back.

They told me the software would work on Windows 7 but it kept locking up and had to be restarted numerous times which was very concerning.   I was only doing a small test inventory so could only imagine if this happened while with a client.

I also didn't like how the reports were organized and seemed to use an excessive amount of paper.

Thanks Rick for sharing this information.  I would typically not respond in this space However, since there are numerous false claims made against my company and our Home Journal Business product I felt the need to respond.

I just reviewed the message board provided by KC Home Inventory and can confirm that there are numerous false statements, in fact the one long bad mouthing post from “Diana” is way off base.  She states that she recently returned our product however it is quite interesting that we don’t have any recent returns and none from anyone named Diana.  In fact we have a very low return rate and most of the time it is simply because the customer was just unsure what it was all about and wanted to review the details of the kit.

Needless to say we have not had a return in 6 months so this claim is impossible and validates Rick’s statement that the majority of posts on their message board are completely fabricated
.

I wanted to respond as well to some of the false statements to ensure that our product is represented properly:

  1. We are a member of the Better Business Bureau in good standing with no issues and encourage anyone to give them a call to verify.
  2. Our product is not just focused on the Business software, it is a comprehensive kit that includes a long list of items to start, grow and run your business.
  3. Our software and revisions were developed with input from leading inventory professionals.
  4. We do NOT place false posts on our forums.
  5. You cannot get the same product for $29.95.  There is a homeowner version available for those homeowners who are motivated to do an inventory on their own but it is not the same product.  Our business product is robust and handles large amounts of data, includes tools to archive/restore and backup data as well as custom inventory reporting to meet the specific needs of a business.
  6. Our software was not created in MS Access, it does however use an internal engine that stores data in Access format but the interface was developed using the industry standard custom development tool from Microsoft for enterprise solutions.  I encourage the false poster to try creating our product in Access.
  7. Our system provides the option to include a Protection Plus software CD for clients to give access to their inventory and provide the ability to track home improvement project details.  We include 10 CDs in our kit and additional CDs cost $9.95 if you choose to provide to new clients.  Providing this CD is completely optional, our business software allows you to fully export all reports to electronic format such as PDF or Word so they can be copied onto a CD for your client at no cost.  Since everyone has the free PDF viewer on their desktop, anyone can view their reports in electronic format at no cost.
I’m disappointed by the lack of professionalism of such copy-cat companies who are dishonest in an attempt to grow their business.  In the end it will only lead to less business and ultimately them going out of business.

If you have any questions at all about our product I encourage you to contact me directly and I’ll be happy to help answer your questions.

Hello Again,
I previously posted on this topic and felt the need to give another update.  I was recently contacted through this board by someone who is interested in getting into this business.

This person was reviewing another message board which was bad mouthing the Home Journal Business product and since my post mentioned that I had previously purchased the KC kit and now this one, they were looking for feedback to try and make sense of it.

As it turns out, the message board is hosted by KC Home Inventory.  I checked it out and looks like a weak attempt to copy this message board.  If you review the posts they are so obviously fabricated and self serving to try and get you to buy their product.
How cheesey and pathetic can you get! confused

As I mentioned before, you'll do well to stay away from the KC product, their false claims and dishonest ways.  Go with the Home Journal Business product and you won't be disappointed, it has been the key to getting my business off the ground.  I would suggest asking the Home Journal Business people any questions about their kit and software instead of listening to anything on the KC message board.

I just want to add that I found the KC kit before the HJB (Home Journal Business) one but did not feel comfortable spending $315 dollars for it. I did not think it was worth it to be quite honest so I passed on it. Instead, I built my own program in Access and used that for my own home. Eventually, I found the HJB ad in a magazine and after checking out the website and the online demos, I realized I found the program that all inventory business owners should be using. Even though this kit costs more than KC, it is worth every cent. The HJB kit pratically sells itself, especially with the online demos. You cannot go wrong with this kit and the online community and vendor support is top notch. Many thanks to Fred and his company for making it possible for us to be business owners with unlimited potential.

Please add me to the list of disappointed customers who purchased the KC Home Inventory kit as well.

My father used to tell me that if it sounds too good to be true then it probably is which is definitely the case with this product.   The website makes promises of including tons of content, instructions, web materials and more which is all sub standard in my opinion.  It was clearly tossed together in an effort to make money without regard for actually helping someone get started in this business.

They now even try to include a software product which looks very poor.

I feel foolish that I fell for the long list of promises about what was included so wanted to provide this information to help prevent others from wasting their time.

Just as the others have suggested, you'll do well to stay away from this product.   I just received the Complete Home Journal Business kit from the sponsors of this message board and I'm extremely pleased smile

Put me on the unsatisfied customer list for KC Home Inventory as well.  You'll do well to stay away from what they offer.  The group of people on this forum are great on the other hand!

Yes, there seems to be a common theme here, it seems like a good idea to stay away from KC Home Inventory.

The jewelry props I got from KC are already falling apart and I needed to replace.   Some good inexpensive options for getting the props you need are in the Home Journal Business kit which includes these links:
www.fetpak.com

www.jewelrysupply.com

www.gemsondisplay.com

I also bought this.cry.gif When I received it half the stuff was missing. It took number of phone calls, email and months before receiving everything.

I called and email with questions and never heard back. What a waste of money.

Hi, I originally bought this manual also. I found it to be not very informative about the home inventory business, but very informative about the procedures in starting any type of business. It covered a lot about business structure, business insurance, paying taxes, topics of business in general. If you have never owned your own business this manual would be helpful but not particularly for the inventory business.I have a copy for sale on ebay right now if anybody is interested.(username southside04)Thanks and have a great day!

Hi,
I purchased this kit a short time ago and was not impressed.  The materials were outdated and seemed to be put together very quickly.

After reviewing the information in their kit I was very discouraged and didn't feel as though I had a good foundation to begin.  Just the thought of manually putting together reports based on printed forms was truly overwhelming.

I also tried to contact them with some questions multiple times and nobody ever got back to me.

I'm so pleased to have found the Home Journal Business kit and software product as well as this wonderful community of helpful people. smile

Has anyone else had any experiences with this company ?

I should also add that this company has complaints filed against them with the Better Busines Bureau which can be seen on this website http://www.kansascity.bbb.org/
