I called the department of state for my state and found out all I needed to do was fill out form for articles of organization. They checked the database to see if the name I chose for my company was taken. It wasn't and I didn't need to reserve a name - it was pretty easy- mailed the form with $120 fee. I will have to fill out an annual report every year on the anniversary of the formation of my LLC.
If your state works the same as Nevada, that form allows you to reserve your chosen company name for a specified time period to prevent someone else from registering it while you are getting your paperwork ready to submit. Yes, it's an extra expense, but well worth it. Once your company is registered, you will have to submit paperwork and fee's at a specified time period to keep your registration active. In Nevada, I have to submit my list of company officers and pay a fee every year during the month I originally registered my LLC.
There's a lot of information on the CT Secretary of State web site - I've just started to go through the process in the start up guide. Working full time leaves me little time to form my new Inventory business.
From what I've been reading in the Forum news, I will be filing and establishing my business on my own. Forming a LLC in the state of CT seems easy enough, I just wasn't sure about that 120 day expiration date. I have printed the application and will send in with the $60 fee they charge in CT. More than likely that is to reserve your business name. This gives you the time to form your business, talk to an attorney, if you need, and to get the necessary paperwork together. You only need to re-register the reservation if you do not regiser your business. It should make this clear on your Secretary of State's website.

I live in CT and went to the Secretary of State web site for the application form to register a business name as a LLC. I found the application for the Reservation of a Name - it states it will be effective for a period of 120 days from file date. After the 120 days the name reservation expires, does this mean I have to re-register every 120 days?
First you need to check out the website the Secretary of State for your home state. Then you should be able to find the forms to fill out. Most have them available as a form than can be filled out and filed online. Fill out the form, submit the fee via cc. Then you should get an email in a day or 2 for your register company.
This is the route I took.
I did check out the other websites like legal zoom dot com. But they also tack on a fee to file this for you. I can and did file this for myself. It's not too hard since I just registered as an LLC (Limited Labiality Company).
Now, if you wanted to register in another state, say Nevada, as your business home location, and you live in a different state. Then you will need an agent in Nevada to act on your behalf as the corporate or business home office. You will still have to register with your home state as a foreign business entity. Usually the same fee as just registering as a local entity. On top of the previous fees. It can get confusing and expensive, if you want it to be that way.
I filed with my home state, without all the mucky-muck. It was the easiest way to go. Its not too hard. Unless you want to Incorporate then you may need a lawyer to setup for you and help with the paperwork. But, that wasnt for me.

I am in my trails to get my business registered.... I searched for the best way of registering.. But its not for free. You guys are telling that you did by your own... How its possible?? Can any one suggest me???

We did ours ourselves. Depending on the state and the entity type, it usually just involves a form or two that can be completed online with a credit card.
If you're creating an entity (i.e., corporation, LLC, etc.), don't forget to apply for an EIN with the IRS. (Another online form).
now im curious how many have paid for an agency to register their business amd how many have done it themselves ? i live in pa and they would charge me $70 to register a dba or fictitious name if i did it myself. legal zoom would charge me $300 to register it for me wich makes no sense because they claim that their fee for this service is only $99. $70 + $99 = $169 i called legal zoom to question their fees and the guy got very agitated and asked if i want their service or not ,,,,,,,,,,,,i told him i dont do business with deceptive companies. i believe i will be doing the registration on my own.
